Presentation by Dr. Fred Phillips, Ph.D. Professor Emeritus of Hydrology at New Mexico Tech: Assessment of Impacts of Climate Change on New Mexico Water Resources over the next Fifty Years

We all recognize the importance of water to New Mexico, an increasingly arid state.  Tasked by our governor, The New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission (NMISC) is leading a collaborative effort to develop a 50-Year Water Plan.  The pillars of the 50-Year Water Plan are stewardship, equity and sustainability – how to allow for more flexibility in managing water supplies and infrastructure in the face of weather extremes brought on by a changing climate. Dr. Fred Phillips is a key member of a team of climate and water resources scientists convened by New Mexico Bureau of Geology & Mineral Resources (NMBGMR) to research the issues and deliver their report.  Their report will inform the development of the 50-Year Water Plan, in preparation by the New Mexico Interstate Stream
