Stede Barber

Communications Manager

Stede Barber, who joined Friends in April 2024, has years of grant writing, social media, and graphics experience; she has worked as a writer, editor, and visual artist – in the Los Angeles area, Santa Fe, and  Abiquiu, among other places. She is passionate about Bosque del Apache, is a nature lover, and a landscape painter. 

Stede’s background includes registering Abiquiu’s Tres Semillas Foundation, a behind-the-scenes organization founded by Helen LaKelly Hunt, as a 501c3, and garnered the foundational grant for their Northern Youth Group’s initial land restoration and small farm project in Abiquiu, New Mexico. The project’s first step was to secure reliable water for their garden.  Stede was managing editor of a monthly newspaper, editor and publisher for a non-profit, and won the Ben Franklin Award for best book edit and redesign, reworking the concept as well as visuals.
