Hi folks! My name is Emily Johnson and I’m the new Invasive Species Specialist working on the Lower Rio Grande River Realignment Project at Bosque del Apache. I have a BA in Zoology from Ohio Wesleyan University and MSc in Biology from East Carolina University. I’m originally from North Carolina, but work and school have taken me all over the country.
I started my career in Seward, Alaska at the Alaska SeaLife Center and have since worked at Kodiak NWR, for USACE in North Dakota, and for Audubon Florida. I have mostly worked with birds including eiders, Alaskan seabirds, rails, and wading birds (Roseate Spoonbills). My career path has led me on many adventures working with wildlife and wildlands and my goal is to continue that trajectory. I’d eventually like to land back in Alaska, which I consider my second home.
When I’m not at work, I spend my free time primarily with my two furry monsters, George (dog) and Anhi (cat). I am passionate about birding, hiking and traveling. Though I’m still new to the Southwest, I’ve found it very welcoming and a beautiful and varied place to live. I’ve been enjoying my time here at BdA and am looking forward to whatever adventures I might have here.
